Concealed Carry Classes
Florida is still a “shall issue” state which means as long as you have nothing in your background that disqualifies you, you will be able to obtain a permit.
Current Florida state law has changed, Florida is now a “Constitutional Carry” state, which means you no longer need a state issued Concealed Carry Permit to carry your firearm concealed on your person while in public. However, there are still a few good reasons to obtain and maintain a Florida CCW.
The first being your ability to cross state lines and carry your firearm while traveling in states that have a concealed carry reciprocal agreement with the State of Florida. It remains unclear in some cases if other Constitutional Carry states will or will not still require you to have a CCW from your home state so the safest path would be to possess a Florida CCW.
Secondly, Florida CCW holders are not required to comply with a 72 hour waiting period when purchasing a firearm before taking possession of it.
Lastly, a question for you, have you ever travelled through a posted school zone or driven past a school with your firearm on your person or in your vehicle? My guess is, you do it all the time and in so doing you would be violating the mandated “no firearms within 1000 feet of a school” laws. Florida has a solution, CCW holders in our state are permitted to pass through school zones or travel within 1000 feet of a school without having to change how they carry a firearm on their person or in their vehicle. Non-CCW holders would be required to unload their firearm, store it in a locked container and place it out of reach while travelling within 1000 feet of a school, then once clear of the school, retrieve their firearm reload and continue on about their business. Constitutional Carry does not exempt you from complying with the 1000 foot rules, only a state issued CCW does that.
